From Reading to Writing is a textbook especially designed for college-age foreign-language English learners to improve their writing skills through reading. The sixteen articles in this book are based on college students' experiences from their families, schools, friends, and work. Readers will enjoy reading the articles as they are authentic and related to their daily lives in Taiwan. This book teaches five common reading techniques— reading for the main idea, skimming, scanning, reading for detail and inferring—to help readers improve their reading comprehension. Furthermore, with its extensive reading and writing pointers, readers are able to accumulate enough experience to write their own essays.
Each unit has four major sections:
Vocabulary & Phrases: illustrates vocabulary/phrases that are likely to challenge students so that students can better understand the readings and use the new vocabulary/phrases in their essays
Fill-in Exercise: helps students master the vocabulary and phrases learned from the text
Outline: helps students with text comprehension Activity
Portion: contains three primary parts--Word Unscrambling, Comprehension Questions and Writing Activity. It assists students in mastering grammar usages, practicing different reading techniques, and producing their own essays related to the topics.
