大海無須詢問,便認出了我;
航向他者;
用一種沒有疆界的語言;
願這一句話成為橋梁,也成為種子;
願這場相遇,讓我們以兄弟姊妹相稱;

"Plug Point" / Tsai Jung-yung
The sky is dim.
The sparrows haven't yet, started singing
Mother, anxious, wakes
the eyes of the rising sun
She has to cook, do laundry...
And rush to wash the clothes of Ajiao, Aman, Ahua... the whole family,
dirty clothes from yesterday
Otherwise, the firewood, rice, oil, and salt
will scold her loudly
for being lazy!
Hands that have been washing clothes for sixty years
Still can't find the plug point for the
washing machine
Postscript: my mother, who was illiterate and without any skills, relied on her hands as a washerwoman. Washing machines hadn't been invented yet in 1966.

Editor's Preface Witnessing the Historical Landscape of Tamsui and Taiwan / Chen Hsiu-chen
The Tamsui Culture Foundation, led by chairperson Hsu Hui-ming and a team of passionate locals, has maintained the initial ideal of promoting Tamsui as a world culture heritage city and continued to hold the Formosa International Poetry Festival, allowing foreign and local poets to gather in Tamsui to create more stories for world of poetry.
In a world where changes are the only constant, Hsu Hui-ming as a literati has remained steadfast in his commitment to poetry, and has help to usher The Formosa International Poetry Festival in Tamsui into its 11th year. Through this festival, international poets can gather, use poetry as a calling card, exchange ideas, and witness the historical landscape of Tamsui and Taiwan.
As days and nights pass us, as the tides ebb and flow, a decade has passed in the blink of an eye, and poets, with their keen senses, have witnesses both the fleeting and the eternal.
One of the changes is the Danjiang Bridge, designed by the renowned architect Zaha Hadid, has finally risen amidst the sound of the tides at the Tamsui River estuary after years of anticipation from the people of Tamsui. This new landmark in Tamsui - one that Mackay never saw, Shih Chien never walked on, Lin Yu-zhu never painted, and even Dr. Lee Kuei-shien never had the chance to name —is brimming with creativity and full of stories to be told.
The Danjiang Bridge connects Tamsui and Bali, its pylon rising like two hands pressed together in prayer , guarding the sunset and endless ripples at the mouth of Tamsui River. We gaze up at the golden waterfront, marveling at the perfect blend of strength and beauty of the bridge. As for those loved by the poets and have unfortunately left us, we believe they have transformed into stars, gazing upon their cherished hometown the other side. As dusk settles, those stars, seemingly both near and far, both cold and warm, watch over the ancient and mysterious night sky of Tamsui.
As Dr. Lee Kuei-shien said, "Tamsui is the birthplace of sceneries." Every year, international poets travel from the ends of the earth to this land of poetic beauty and historical sites; their vision of Tamsui is always filled imbued with a magical quality. At the opening ceremony of the 2017 Poetry Festival, I read a poem written for the festival, "Tamsui in September 2016," on behalf of the Taiwanese poets. The poem described all the familiar places and attractions of Tamsui, but did not include the still-under-construction bridge. The Danjiang Bridge now spans the Tamsui River, like an elegant white harp, letting the winds pluck out a unique melody. This single-pylon asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge is the longest of its kind in the world, is scheduled for completion in 2026, as if acting as a monument to the Poetry Festival as it enters another decade.
The poetry festival is also a bridge, connecting the tangible waterfronts with the intangible human heart; it is also a Taiwan goldenrain tree, growing strong year after year, blossoming with star-shaped petals in September, attracting poets from around the world like migratory birds, returning to the island.
The collection Poetry Feeling in Sea and Land 2026 is a grand, cross-continent chorus of works, featuring poets from eleven countries, including Taiwan, El Salvador, the United States, France, Romania, Denmark, Italy, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Uzbekistan.
Memories become a golden key, unlocking a decade's worth of scenes—
Poets walked side-by-side into the Shell Warehouse, rode the cultural streetcar through Five Tiger Hills, crossed the white Lover's Bridge, and gazed at the cloud-shrouded Guanyin Mountain and the sun-kissed Datun Mountain...
The Zhongliao community has also been the most idyllic of locations that international poets dream of visiting every festival. Community chairman Lee Zhen-rong and the creative residents have, year after year, sincerely welcomed poets from afar, providing them with unforgettable cultural experiences and surprising gifts. The winding poetry road blossoms with literary flowers. Poets have wandered amidst the sounds of poetry, birdsong, and the fragrance of osmanthus blossoms around the Mid-Autumn Festival, finding their own poems and names written on ceramic tablets along the road.
During the poetry festival, poets experienced the multifaceted beauty of Tamsui and personally experienced the complexity and diversity of Taiwanese culture.
After the poetry festival, it is hoped that the poets, carrying suitcases filled with memories, will continue to write about this wondrous journey, allowing the mountains, sea, and land of Tamsui and Formosa to continue to shine brightly around the world.
